Hello! I am Dana, the author of Table Thyme Kitchen food & recipe blog. Born and raised in the “Amish Country” of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania I reside in the thriving community that is downtown Lancaster. With a background in performing and visual arts, I have been a self-proclaimed foodie for as far back as I can remember, and a writer for even longer. But my real passion for food was something that developed later in life, kind of by accident when I found myself working part-time at a restaurant waiting tables, serving fancy new american dishes and opening overpriced bottles of wine where I pretended to know what I was talking about for the exchange of tips. Two short years later, I had graduated from culinary school and had my first official chef job at a Forbes rated 5-star Italian restaurant. [insert cliche anything is possible if you work hard and set your mind to it phrase.] Writing this blog is my way of pursuing my continued love for cooking while pursuing the bigger picture in life. I work full time for Meals on Wheels where I am able to use my love for food and human connection to help my community. For me, spending time at the table isn’t just about the meal that I am eating. It’s about the people who I am spending time with and the memories made and conversations that take place. Table Thyme is my unique space where you will find a collection of my own recipes as well as random pieces of writing about miscellaneous topics that are important to me.
All of my recipes that I share are inspired by my love for comfort food, German and Italian ancestry, and my Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish country surroundings. While you’ll notice the occasional classic French cooking terminology likely followed by a run-on sentence, all of my recipes are written playfully and extremely easy to follow. I hope to share my cooking expertise not in a I have a culinary degree therefore I’m super cultured and better than you so my word is law kind of way but in a hey look! I’ve done a ton of cool stuff with food and you can too! kind of way.
I currently hold an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management from the Pennsylvania School of Culinary Arts as well as a Continuing Education Certificate in Social Media & Digital Marketing from the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design.
Apart from writing this blog, I work full-time for Meals On Wheels of Lancaster. My “day job” consists of cooking for hundreds of senior citizens per day who are battling food insecurity and social isolation. I am also responsible for anything digital marketing related. i.e design and content maintenance of the Meals on Wheels website, blog posts, social media platforms, and digital newsletters.
